Arnai Ancient City Surveys

This archaeological survey project will be conducted within the territory of the ancient city of Arneai, located in the Günçalı-Ernez neighborhood of the Finike district, Antalya Province, on behalf of Akdeniz University and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The project aims to illuminate the historical development of the city from its earliest phases through the Late Eastern Roman period, drawing upon evidence provided by its well-preserved fortification walls, rock-cut tombs that have survived to the present day, and the extensive ceramic material scattered throughout the site. In addition, the surveys to be carried out in the Günçalı-Ernez area are expected to generate new data concerning the populations of Mountainous (Central) Lycia.

Scheduled to commence in 2025, the project serves two principal objectives. The first is the systematic documentation and classification of the existing archaeological evidence. The second is the dissemination of the scientific results obtained through the research, thereby contributing new knowledge to the broader archaeological community.
